Introductory material
- For a general introduction to effective altruism, read this.
- TED Talk by philosopher Peter Singer on the why and how of effective altruism.
- TED Talk by Oxford philosopher William MacAskill on the most important problems of our time.
- On Caring by Nate Soares — a classic essay exploring the workings of empathy. Warmly recommended for everyone, whether new to EA or not.
- Gutes besser tun — our short story (in German) on why we ask how to do the most good.
Career resources
- 80,000 Hours has a great guide to their ideas and to strategic career planning here.
- They also run a podcast featuring in-depth conversations about the world's most pressing problems. Highly recommended.
In-depth reading
- Effectivealtruism.org maintains a list of resources and a collection of excellent articles.
- The EA Forum is a place for collaborative discussion on how to do the most good.
- Nate Soares' series on replacing guilt with healthier, stronger forms of motivation. Long, but highly worth it.
- This talk is a great introduction to thinking about the long-term future.
